The grounds of Nihi Sumba Island are covered in cocoa plantations, the most important agricultural export of Indonesia. As part of the resort’s mission to preserve and protect the unique culture of the Sumbanese people, it has developed its very own organic chocolate plantation, where locals turn cocoa into delicious chocolate.
The resort, a member of The Leading Hotels of the World, uses the alliance to help preserve and embrace its traditional cultural roots via the organic chocolate plantation.
Families will love getting hands-on in the chocolate-making process. With three different types of chocolate available, from creamy milk, to 70% or 80% rich dark chocolate, Nihi Sumba has something the whole family will enjoy. From joining a ‘chocolate wizard’ in the process of going from plant to chocolate bar, hand-crafting your very own organic chocolate turtle, to sipping on luxurious hot chocolate, this is the ultimate sweet treat.
The chocolate factory is open from 12pm to 3pm daily, with the chocolate club looking after children of all ages from 10am to 5pm. At the chocolate club, the little ones are taken care of by the caretaker Wizards who accompany them through magical nature trails, to the organic garden, on farm tours and on scavenger hunts. Kids can also enjoy sand-castle making and kids’ yoga, and they can learn the art of mask making. Come lunch time, the chocolate club provides meals with unlimited juice, water and milk. Kids then continue the fun by playing card games, Twister, having fun on the pirate ship, or scribbling on blackboards, all while you unwind in the resort enjoying the other experiences on offer, whether that be a spa treatment or one of the day excursions on offer.
With a range of award-winning accommodation options for families – from private escapes to wave-front villas – Nihi Sumba is the perfect Easter getaway, ensuring both kids and adults get a taste of the sweet life.
